Mamá La Lechera

Postpartum Support Group

Mama La Lechera offers breastfeeding support and education throughout Lancaster. Led by Norma Vazquez, they promote and support breastfeeding as a vital element of infant and maternal health. They empower mothers and families with knowledge, resources, and encouragement to make breastfeeding a positive and fulfilling experience.

At YWCA Lancaster, we understand that the postpartum period can be both joyous and challenging. Our Postpartum Support Group is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for new mothers as they navigate this critical phase of motherhood.

Our Postpartum Support Group offers a safe space for new mothers to share their experiences, ask questions, and receive support from both peers and professionals. Here’s what you can expect:

Emotional Support: Connect with other new mothers and birthing persons who understand the highs and lows of postpartum life. Share your journey, gain insights, and find comfort in knowing you are not alone.

Expert Guidance: Our group is facilitated by experienced professionals who provide valuable information and practical advice on various postpartum topics, including emotional well-being, physical recovery, and infant care.

Resource Sharing: Access a wealth of resources tailored to support your postpartum journey. From informational materials to referrals for additional services, we ensure you have the tools you need to thrive.

Interactive Sessions: Engage in interactive discussions and activities designed to promote bonding, self-care, and effective parenting strategies. Our goal is to empower you with confidence and knowledge as you embrace motherhood.

Join the YWCA Lancaster community and find the support you need during this transformative time.

Meet Norma

Norma Vazquez

Norma Vazquez (she/her/ella) is a Certified Lactation Counselor who has been working in public health for 16 years. Recently she has focused her efforts on providing lactation support to birthing persons in her community through her position as a Lactation Counselor at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and as Founder and Birth and Postpartum Doula at Mama La Lechera, the business she founded after witnessing first hand the racial disparities BIPOC individuals face when it comes to breastfeeding.

Understanding the barriers that impact breastfeeding initiation and duration rates, Norma launched Mama La Lechera to support mamas and birthing persons regardless of their ability to pay. Through these efforts she invests in and cares for her community by providing a context of support, education, representation, and belonging.

Norma was honored by YWCA Lancaster as a community leader at the 2021 Women of Achievement Awards. Her work in the community is invaluable and we are so happy to partner with her to provide this program.
